From clay to brick – this process has changed significantly over the centuries. On a tour of the old brickworks, you will learn how brickmakers used to produce bricks by hand until the beginning of the 20th century. The machine brickworks shows how industrialisation changed everything. You will encounter the ‘heart of the brickworks’ that kept all the machines running and finally see how bricks could be fired continuously in the ring kiln.

When the brickmakers of Lippe could no longer find work in their homeland, they went to other regions to work during the summer months. Meanwhile, their families were left behind. On this tour, you will learn how the migrant brickmakers lived in a foreign land, how they spent their everyday lives and holidays. You will learn about the living conditions and problems of the families left behind in a reconstructed brickmaker's cottage with a garden.

This tour is largely barrier-free.

On this tour, we discover the brickworks in a playful way. We learn how bricks used to be made by hand and with machines, and experience individual processes through playful activities. This tour is suitable for children as well as mixed groups of children and adults.
