Blick auf den Spielplatz der Ziegele Lage

A family day out at the brickworks

Fun, games and brick adventures

As well as our playground, which features a range of play equipment including a slide, a nest swing and a rocking animal, the Ziegelei Lage has plenty more to offer children. Shape your own brick with your hands, explore the museum along the children’s trail with ‘Ziegel Toni’, experiment with building materials, take a ride on the narrow-gauge railway, or enjoy a Lippischer Pickert on the sun terrace – there’s plenty for the whole family to discover here.

Make your own brick

Kind formt mit Händen in nassem Ton

Cold, sticky and heavy – that’s what the material feels like that has been used to build houses for centuries. From mid-April to mid-October, children can use their hands and a wooden frame to shape their own brick here, and collect it a few weeks later as a fired brick.

Out and about with Toni the Brick

Comic Ziegelstein mit Gesicht, Armen und Beinen

The hand-moulded brickworks is one of the most popular stops on our children’s trail featuring ‘Toni the Brick’. The cartoon character guides visitors through the museum via illustrated panels and text displays, and invites them to get involved and have a go with the models.

In the machine brickworks, boys and girls can use heavy metal wheels to press the wet clay through a metal grate in a small roller mill, operate tipping trolleys and make small bricks on the extruder model.
